
Hello World magazine
I was the editor of Hello World magazine, published by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. During my time as editor, I led the publication of seven magazines and two special editions.
What’s the resource?
Hello World is a magazine designed to support and inspire primary- and secondary-level computing educators. It contains feature articles, news pieces, lesson plans, and educational research digests.
It is available for free, in print and digital formats, and is read by 37,000 subscribers.
What did I do?
- Commissioned classroom teachers, researchers, and tech enthusiasts to write articles
- Edited all articles, working closely with writers to offer feedback and develop compelling narratives
- Managed a team of sub editors, leading discussions about style guides, grammatical changes, sentence structure, fact checking, and page layout
- Wrote news articles and interview pieces
- Liaised with a design agency, offering feedback on InDesign and PDF files
- Proofread all files
- Project-managed the budget and schedule
- Checked image permissions and license uses
- Led the growth strategy to increase the magazine’s subscriber base, global reach, and download numbers
- Worked with printers and mailers to prepare and distribute the print version of the magazine
- Presented at national and international conferences, including writing workshops

Cambridge University Press: IGCSE & O Level Computer Science series
I was a commissioning editor at Cambridge University Press, leading the development of the computing portfolio for international syllabuses. I commissioned the IGCSE & O Level Computer Science series.
What’s the resource?
The series includes a coursebook, teacher’s resource, and three programming books (in Python, Visual Basic, and Java).
What did I do?
- Researched, wrote, and presented the business case and secured investment for the series
- Visited teachers in Indonesia, the UAE, Oman, and Kenya to carry out market research for the series
- Commissioned, contracted, and briefed the authors for each of the resources
- Secured collaboration with Microsoft Research, to produce case studies for the coursebook, a key USP of the series
- Provided feedback on authors’ work
- Proofed the resources, providing feedback to typesetters and packagers
- Briefed, drafted, and edited marketing copy in partnership with marketing colleagues
- Analysed sales and market data to inform publishing decisions and strategy
- Created training materials for and provided product training to the sales team

I was a commissioning editor at Cambridge University Press, supporting the development of the science portfolio for international syllabuses. I commissioned the IGCSE Physics series.
What’s the resource?
The series includes a coursebook, teacher’s resource, workbook, maths skills workbook, and English language skills workbook.
What did I do?
- Researched, wrote, and presented the business case and secured investment for the series
- Visited teachers in India to carry out market research for the series
- Commissioned, contracted, and briefed the authors for each of the resources
- Worked closely with the team working on the IGCSE Biology and IGCSE Chemistry series to ensure consistency across the entire Science series
- Provided feedback on authors’ work
- Proofed the resources, providing feedback to typesetters and packagers
- Briefed, drafted, and edited marketing copy in partnership with marketing colleagues
- Analysed sales and market data to inform publishing decisions and strategy
- Created training materials for and provided product training to the sales team

I was a commissioning editor at Cambridge University Press, leading the development of the computing portfolio for international syllabuses. I commissioned an international adaptation of the Click Start series, for primary to lower secondary.
What’s the resource?
The series includes eight student books, spanning primary to lower secondary.
What did I do?
- Commissioned an international adaptation of the existing Click Start series (created for the Indian schools market), to fill a gap in Cambridge University Press’ computing offering for primary-lower secondary students
- Updated examples and case studies, imagery, and language for an international audience
- Commissioned new covers to fit with updated branding
- Proofed the resources, providing feedback to typesetters and packagers
- Briefed, drafted, and edited marketing copy in partnership with marketing colleagues
- Created training materials for and provided product training to the sales team
